Articulation Station Pro 2.0 Update
We are excited to announce the release of Articulation Station Pro v2.0! This long awaited release brings phrases and phonological processes to our favorite articulation app.
The phrases are included in two new activities, rotating phrases and unique phrases. These are also available in Articulation Station. The rotating phrases are two-word phrases with a “lead word” and a “target word.” The lead word proceeds the target word with words like, “my, his, hers, big, little, hot or cold.” The target word has the target sound in the targeted sound position. Both the lead words and the target words spin producing hundreds of silly and fun phrase combinations like, “happy socks,” and “hello balloons.”
You can choose which lead words and target words you want included in the activity by tapping on the custom list icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen before beginning the activity. You can even add your own lead word by selecting “+ add word” at the bottom of the “Lead Words” column in custom lists (only available when all sounds are purchased and in Articulation Station Pro).
For example, adding the child’s name could produce the following phrase combination, “Heidi’s salad,” or “Heidi’s sofa”.
If you are working in a rotating phrase activity and you decide you want to focus on one lead word, or one target word you can lock the spin buttons by tapping and holding the spin button until it locks.
An example of when locking the spin button might be helpful would be when there is one particular target word the child really struggles with. You could lock the spin button on that word (to stop little tap happy fingers) and then continue to spin the lead words giving you lots of different opportunities to practice the target word in new phrase combinations. For example if the child was struggling with the word “rabbit” and you locked the spin button on “rabbit” and continue to spin the lead words. You could get phrase combinations like, “my rabbit” “little rabbit” and “pretty rabbit.”
The unique phrases are three-word phrases that are different every time. The phrases are generally descriptive phrases which provides the added benefit of being able to work on language goals and articulation at the same time. For example, “hot pepperoni pizza,” and “little lion cub.” Like in the other activities you can customize your list by tapping on the custom list icon before beginning the activity.
Phonological Processes are accessed by tapping on the red phonological processes button on the bottom right corner of the home screen (only available when all sounds are purchased and in Articulation Station Pro).
For phonological processes definitions, examples and ages of elimination you can tap on the question icon in the upper right hand corner of the phonological processes menu.
After you have selected the process you’d like to target you can choose to practice them at the word level in the flashcard or matching activity.
We’ve also added Retina image support in v2.0, which means the app will look even prettier on those iPads with Retina (high resolution) screens!
As mentioned above, there are several features that are only available if all sounds have been purchased in Articulation Station or with Articulation Station Pro. These features are:
– Adding Lead Words in Rotating Phrases
– Targeting Phonological Processes
– Adding your own custom images
We hope you will enjoy these new features in version 2.0 of Articulation Station and Articulation Station Pro and we would like to invite you to please take a moment to review the app in the App Store. Doing so will help others as they consider Articulation Station, and hearing your feedback will also help us to continue to improve this app and make it the best it can be.
