Our Story
Little Bee Speech was founded by Heidi Hanks, MS. CCC-SLP in 2005.
What started as a small private speech therapy practice in 2005 has buzzed into something much bigger—a company that now helps thousands of speech-language pathologists, parents, and kids every day.
Heidi has been helping little voices find their words since 2000 when she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Utah State University and started her career in early intervention. In 2005, she started her private practice Little Bee Speech, working primarily with preschoolers and school-aged children.
In 2007, Heidi launched Mommy Speech Therapy, a blog to share her favorite tips, techniques, and go-to resources with other SLPs and parents. It quickly became a popular place for those looking for help and encouragement on their speech and language journey.
Since 2011, Heidi and the talented team at Little Bee Speech are hard at work creating smart, easy-to-use software tools that make life simpler and a lot more effective, for busy SLPs everywhere.

Little Bee Speech was named in honor of our home state, Utah, which is known as The Beehive State.Utah’s nickname reflects the state's rich pioneer history, where early settlers exemplified hard work, self-reliance, and determination—values symbolized by the industrious bee and its hive.
We’re proud to call such an inspiring, hard-working place our home. Utah’s rich, industrious spirit motivates us to bring that same dedication and care to everything we do at Little Bee Speech.

Our Take on Using Technology in the Speech Room
While we recognize the powerful impact mobile devices have had on delivering therapy and engaging children in new and exciting ways, we believe that the most effective therapy still comes from personal interaction with a therapist or parent.
We strongly encourage our software to be used alongside a caregiver or professional—not only to help children get the most out of the experience, but also to help them stay focused and make consistent, lasting progress toward their speech and language goals.
