Explore Word Lists in Articulation Station Hive
Word Lists, located in the dock, gives you the flexibility to target multiple sounds in a single activity—and so much more!
When you open the Word Lists screen, you’ll see three tabs:

My Lists Tab:
This is where you’ll find all the lists you’ve created and saved. Lists created from multiple Sound Programs will appear at the top, followed by lists you’ve created within specific Sound Programs.
Speech Tab:
Here you’ll find ready-to-use Word Lists for targeting multisyllabic words and complex consonant clusters, including lists designed to support the Complexity Approach.
Language Tab:
Here you’ll find ready-to-use Word Lists for targeting vocabulary and rhyming words.
Together, the Speech and Language tabs include a growing collection of ready-to-use Word Lists designed to support a variety of speech and language goals.
Ready-to-Use Word Lists
Multisyllabic Words
Under the Speech tab, you’ll find ready-to-use lists designed specifically for practicing multisyllabic words.

These begin with simpler word forms, including:
- 2-syllable words with reduplicated syllables
- 2-syllable words with similar word shapes and
- 2-syllable words with varied word shapes
...and progress to increasingly complex 3-syllable, 4-syllable, and 5+ syllable words.
Choosing words with simple, predictable patterns and gradually increasing their length and complexity can support motor planning, reduce syllable omissions, and improve overall speech intelligibility. These lists make it easy to meet children where they are and increase the challenge as their skills develop.
Complexity Approach
The Speech tab also includes ready-to-use lists of complex consonant clusters that can be used to support the Complexity Approach.

These include 3-element clusters such as /spl, spr, skr, str, skw/, as well as 2-element clusters such as /fl, fr, sl, θr, ʃr, bl, gl, br, dr, gr, sw/.
The Complexity Approach is a phonological treatment approach that focuses on treating advanced, later-acquired, or non-stimulable consonant clusters before easier speech sounds. Starting with more complex sound patterns can promote generalization to simpler, untreated sounds, resulting in broader improvements across the speech system.
Vocabulary
Select the Language tab and you’ll find ready-to-use vocabulary lists organized into familiar categories such as animals, body parts, community helpers, school, transportation, and many more.

Use these lists to build vocabulary, practice categorization and describing, or choose words around a topic that is engaging and meaningful for your client.
Rhyming Words
Select the Language tab and scroll down to Phonological Awareness to find ready-to-use lists of rhyming words.

These lists give you another way to incorporate phonological awareness into speech practice and help children listen to, recognize, and play with the sounds in words.
Create and Customize Your Own Word Lists
The ready-to-use lists give you plenty of options to get started, but you can also modify any existing list or create your own from scratch.
Combine Words from Different Sound Programs
To create a list, select My Lists, then tap the green + New List button. Your new list will open to the Sounds tab.

From here, you can add specific word lists from any of the Sound Programs. For example, select initial /p/, /b/, and /m/ to quickly create a list targeting initial bilabial sounds.
Mix and match sounds, positions, and word lists to create exactly the type of practice you need.
Add Suggested Words
Want even more words for a particular target? Look for Add Suggested Words at the bottom of a word list within a Sound Program.

Tap it and Articulation Station Hive will suggest additional words already in the app that can be useful for practicing the sound and word position you selected. Choose the ones you want to add for an easy way to expand your practice and further customize your list.
Search for Exactly What You Need
Search makes creating custom Word Lists easier than ever by allowing you to quickly find words from across the app.

Tap the Search tab and enter a specific word or even a topic. For example, search pink to find the word pink, along with other pink items available in the app.
This makes it easy to build lists around specific therapy goals, themes, interests, or activities, giving you the flexibility to create nearly any Word List you can imagine.
Each target word you find through Search already includes its own unique phrase and sentence, so your custom lists are ready to use for practice at multiple levels.
Add Custom Words
Need a word that isn’t already available as a target word? You can add your own!

Select the Custom Words tab to choose from words you’ve already saved to your Custom Words library or create a new one.
You can also access even more images from throughout Articulation Station Hive. Select + New Custom Word → Add Image → Select from App Images to search the app’s image library, including images used in activities such as Contrast Pairs.

Once you find the image you want, select it, enter your word, and add a unique phrase and sentence. You can then choose a Sound Program to save it to or simply save it to your Custom Words library. Either way, your new custom word can be added to any Word List you create.

Sort Words by Word Shape
You can sort single- and two-syllable words by Word Shape within any Sound Program or Word List.
Simply select 1 Syllable or 2 Syllables at the bottom of the Word List, tap Deselect All, and then choose the Word Shape you want to target.

For example, to practice CVC words, select 1 Syllable → Deselect All → CVC. Your list will then display only CVC words.

You may even find additional words that match the Word Shape you selected. If Add Suggested Words appears at the bottom of your list, tap it to see more words you can add.
Sorting by Word Shape makes it easier to choose words that match a child’s current speech abilities and therapy goals. You can target a specific syllable structure, such as CVC or CCVC, or gradually move from simpler to more complex word shapes as the child’s skills improve.
